The training workshop is designed for Montessori educators to confidently integrate music and movement into classrooms for children aged 3–6. Elemental Music and Movement
in the 6 to 12 Classroom
Three sessions, 1-4 pm ET
Virtual online - August 26, 27, and 28, 2025
Q&A session September 6, 11-13 pm ET

This training workshop introduces elemental music and movement as a joyful and deeply integrated part of cosmic education in the Montessori elementary (ages 6-12) classroom. Guides and their assistants will be able to add multiple modes of exploration and expression to their daily activities that inspire imagination and initiate social interaction. Experiencing moral and emotional topics in embodied form, beyond words, supports the transition to abstraction. The richness of this elemental approach expands the tools for independent group work and creation of Great Work.

Objectives:
•  Expressing language-based content such as rhymes, proverbs, poetry, and stories in rhythmic body percussion, movement, percussion instruments, and narrative mime theater;
•  Using movement categories from Laban Movement Analysis [https://labaninternational.org/scope-of-practice/movement-analysis/] (body, space, time, effort) to investigate subjects like algebra (equations), geography (states of matter/density), and visual art (positive/negative space);
•  Exploring vocal and instrumental melody via improvisation, composition, and notation;
•  Researching traditional dance, music, and drama combinations from various cultures;
•  Encouraging group reflection and formative self-assessment.

Components:
•  11 hours of instruction and Q&A sessions;
•  120-page lesson manual for daily classroom implementation;
•  Electronic spreadsheet for record keeping.

Schedule:
•  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
August 26, 27, 28, 1-4pm ET
